Dumb Animals Mike Jubb
In freckled forest shade,
two wild ponies
cheat the heat
of the sun.
Side by side
head to tail
flicking flies
from nostrils and eyes
they co-operate selfishly;
while children squabble
neighbours fight
and nations go to war.
