The Poetry Archive

Launched in 2005, The Poetry Archive is the world's premier online collection of recordings of poets reading their work. Access to the website is free, and it currently offers audio recordings by 175 English-language poets from many parts of the world.

The oldest recordings are of Robert Browning and Alfred Tennyson; the most recent are living writers from a wide and inclusive list of all kinds of contemporary poetry, including some of the best poets writing for children.

The recordings are accompanied by biographical and bibliographical information, photographs and features such as guided tours by well-known poetry enthusiasts and filmed interviews with some of the poets.

There are special sections for students and teachers, offering practical help in the form of lesson plans and classroom activities, as well as tips on making the most of listening to poets reading their own work.

There is also a glossary which highlights the most important features of poetry, and brings alive the vocabulary we use to talk about it.

The Poetry Archive depends on donations from public bodies and private individuals. Find out how you can help the work of the Archive.
